Mobile Ministry

Mobile Ministry is the use of mobile devices (e.g., cell phones, tablets) to advance the Gospel. Renew specializes in a sub-category of Mobile Ministry - offline distribution - for people with no or limited internet access. This is a great tool to use for follow up after a Gospel presentation! Many groups are advancing the Kingdom doing Mobile Ministry with online apps and internet, but Renew is focused on remote people in the developing world who have little to no internet access. That's why Renew specializes in distributing media through FREE or low-cost, non-internet technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and microSD cards.

Currently, there are over FIVE BILLION mobile phones (cell phones) worldwide. This is an amazing opportunity for
evangelism and discipleship because billions of these phones can play audio and video gospel media files.

Around 1 billion of these mobile phones are smart phones, like Androids or iPhones, and the other 3 billion are feature phones, also known as "dumb" phones. Most smart phones and feature phones are capable of playing Gospel media!

What is Gospel Media?

Audio and video content like the JESUS Film, the Audio New Testament and stories from the Global Recordings Network can be converted into small files for use on mobile phones. This media can shared virally from phone to phone!

How Does it Spread Virally?

iPhones only consume media and do not have distribution capabilities like Bluetooth or SD Card slots.

However, most remote people we are trying to reach with the Gospel don't use iPhones. They tend to use feature phones or Androids—which can be used for Mobile Ministry!

MicroSD Cards

MicroSD cards are small memory chips that can hold enormous amounts of files. Most of the world's mobile phones have microSD card slots, which makes this a great way to give Gospel media content to mobile phone users.

Bluetooth is a wireless technology present on most of the world's mobile phones which can be used to transfer small media files (less than about 10 MB) from phone to phone. In an experiment, SAWBO loaded Bluetooth-able files on seven phones and watched as it spread to 118 people in 50 different villages within one month! The entire book of Mark can be Bluetoothed from one phone to another!

Wi-Fi is a wireless technology that can also transfer media files. Most people are familiar with how Wi-Fi can be used to access the internet, but it can also be used for offline file transfers with a Wi-Fi streaming device like Renew's LightStream.

Wi-Fi can be used to stream media to smartphones and transfer files to the 500 million Android phones worldwide. These devices are becoming more common in the developing world.
